What data we collect and why we collect it

Comments/Product Reviews

When visitors leave comments or product reviews on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Newsletter

If you sign up for any email newsletter we may offer, we will collect your name and email address, and will be used to send you occasional emails with articles, offers, other communications. Our mailing list is managed with MailChimp. You may unsubscribe through links in any email we send, or by logging into MailChimp.

Social Media

If you have or use accounts on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, (“Social Media”) to interact with our website or social media accounts, we can see actions taken, such as link clicks, likes and shares. We may also receive name and other account data if you comments on our social media accounts. Further we may receive anonyomized analytics data from social media companies. Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cart/Account forms

When you make a purchase or create an account on the Heathen Planet website, we may require some information such as name, address, email, or other contact information to facilitate your purchase or account creation. We do not collect payment information such as credit or debit card information. Payment data is securely handled by our PCI compliant third party payment processor Square.

Crypto Payments

We use a plugin that allows peer to peer transactions to take place. You will be able to easily complete a transaction with a supported cryptocurrency. These transactions are securely publicly verified on the blockchain, but are pseudonymous in the spirit of Satoshi, however you still have to provide us shipping information to process your order as described above. If you are making a crypto donation, it will move from your wallet directly to ours. Thanks for your support.

Cookies

If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

Affiliate and referral ads/links

Heathen Planet uses affiliate ads and links for products and services we use or recommend. When you click a link or ad, you will be taken to that companies website. The click is tracked via an advertiser code in the link. Some companies may add a cookie to your browser so if you leave their site, and return within a period of time set by the cookie and their advertising/privacy policies, we still get credit for your interactions or purchases on their site. When you make a purchase from an affiliate ad or link on our site, we receive a commission payment.

Heathen Planet also uses referral links and ads for products and services we use. Referral links work similar to affiliate links and ads. The primary difference is that we receive a reward instead of a commission payment. As an example. If we place a referral ad for Robinhood Financial on the site, and you visit that link and set up a new account and connect your bank account, we we receive a free share of stock as do you. This is only an example. There are sometime criteria that you have to meet for special deals or rewards we may share. These are set by the advertiser, and must be completed as directed to receive the benefit or discount. Sometimes a reward may be an item or service, or it may be a payment in cryptocurrency which can be convert into your local currency.

We currently use Google Analytics as our primary tool to analyze traffic on our site. Google provides us anonymized user, browser, OS, location, and other data about traffic on this site to make design and marketing decisions about this site. Who we share your data with

We may share some data with our payment processor, such as name and shipping address if you have provided it to us to facilitate your purchase transaction.

Heathen Planet does not sell or rent your data or information to anyone.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

How we protect your data

Heathen Planet uses a variety of security hardening measures for our site. We take a multi-layer approach to protecting our site and your data including login hardening (brute force protection), automated and manual anti-spam efforts, regular maintenance (scanning, backup, updating), threat awareness, and more.

Additionally our web host provides 24/7 monitoring and a daily backup should any problem occur whether an attempted attack or a very rare hardware crash. (I’ve been a customer for 10+ years. In that time they’ve immediately throttled 2 major attempted attacks and contacted me with different sites. And I’ve never had a server crash.)

1. When creating an account on Heathen Planet (or any site for that matter), do not use easy to guess passwords, or passwords you use for other sites.
2. Use a strong password with a variety of letter numbers and symbols.
3. Do not share your login info with others. You are responsible for all actions on this site by you or others with access to your account.
4. If you discover or suspect that your account information has been compromised for any reason, please contact us as soon as possible to secure your account. If you lost or just need to change your password, you can do so in your account menu.
5. Know that Heathen Planet will never ask for your password or credit card information by email or phone. When you make purchase on this site, You will be provided a secure direct portal directly to our payment processor. We never save or store your sensitive payment information. Be aware for phishing scams trying to get you to compromise your information.

What data breach procedures we have in place

In the unlikely, but not impossible event of a data breach, we will first work to stop an ongoing attack and harden our systems accordingly. After securing our site we will assess the details and damage of such a breach. Finally we will contact affected users with our plan to mitigate and repair any losses in such an attack.

What third parties we receive data from

We receive anonymized user data from Google, Facebook, Twitter, Square.

We may receive some address or other account data from Square if you update your account info in the payment portal.

What automated decision making and/or profiling we do with user data

We may run automated email marketing campaigns triggered by certain actions by registered users on our site. Users may opt out of email marketing campaigns at any time.
